Remote sensing and GIS

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer-based system for analyzing and plotting natural events on earth. GIS technology integrates mutual database operations, such as query and statistical analysis, with maps. GIS controls location-based information and offers tools for display and analysis of numerous statistics, population characteristics, economic development, and vegetation systems. Remote sensing is the science of use of sensors on aircrafts and satellites for making measurements of the earth. These sensors gather data in the form of pictures and provides steadfast capabilities for analyzing, visualizing and manipulating those pictures. Remote sensed imagery is unified within a GIS.
